Li Demei is not only a winemaker,he has many titles.He is the professor of Beijing Agriculture College, deputy secretary general for wine branch of China Alcoholic Drinks association,etc.

For the past decade,he also consultants for wineries in China’s several wine regions.And he has made world-class wines.Meanwhile,he actively committed to wine culture promotion.Li Demei is also the spokesman for China on International wine stage.But all because of his starting point,winemaking.

Make the best Chinese wine that can speak to the world

In 1992,Li Demei graduated from Northwest A&F University.He entered wine industry by chance.On Nov.1997,he was attracted by autumn vineyards in northern california,then he decided to work in the wine industry.He went France to study wine in 2001 and did an internship in Chateau Palmer.

After returning from France,he worked in Beijing Agriculture College, as well as chief winemaker for Huailai Sino-French Demonstration Farm.

Since 2005,he worked as wine consultant for Chateau Helan Qingxue where he made the world class wine that can speak to the world.On September 2011,Helan Qingxue’s Jia Bei Lan 2009 special reserve red wine won Decanter International Trophy.It’s the highest awards for Chinese wineries.Judges said the wine was ‘supple, graceful and ripe but not flashy’ and praised its ‘excellent length and four-square tannins’.

When asked why can win award,Li Demei said,”The wine was made based on grape conditions not with the purpose to win award.”He always believes that wine is the product of nature,land and human beings.Winemakers can express their character,but it’s limited.They must first of all respect the nature.”

Jia Bei Lan 2009 is from the eastern foot of helan mountain region,so someone asked,”Is eastern foot of helan mountain region China’s best wine region?” Li Demei said,each region have their own natural conditions.Other regions and winemakers also have the potential to make high quality wines.

Jia Bei Lan tells the world,China can make the best wines,Chinese wines can speak to the world.

Publish book to promote wines

As an influential and well-known winemaker,publishing book is beyond personal preference.It’s more like a kind of responsibility.He have columns on wine and food magazines and has published many articles and books.

As deputy secretary general for wine branch of China Alcoholic Drinks association,he has hosted many scientific research.

Besides,he is a well-received technical consultant.Now he is the consultant for Xinjiang Yanqi region,as well as Chateau Helan Qingxue,Tiansai Vineyards,Chateau Zhongfei and other wineries.
