Compared with the fame of Weilong wines, leaders and winemakers in Weilong are very low-key.You seldom see their reports on internet or newspaper, and can’t find them on various activities. So it’s tool lots of time and efforts to complete my report ,but I can interview such heavy weight winemaker like Jiao Furun, all is worthwhile.

Jiao Furun: Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Weilong Wine Group,committee member of Chinese wine technology committee, also serves as deputy secretary general for China Alcoholic Drinks Association’s wine branch,etc.

Yantai is China’s earliest and largest wine grape base. In 1980s,Yantai decided to build wineries in four counties, one was in Longkou city. Jiao Furun was assigned to join in this construction. Since then, he has been working in wine industry for more than 30 years.

At that time, he said he didn’t know how wine was made. He never think about what wines would brought to his life, career and fate. Because his work was arranged, he had to accept. He recalled that he was firsr sent to Changyu company to study wine about a week, then attended a winemaking training class in Penglai for about 20 days. Finally, he got some idea about the work he would do.

Winemaking is not as easy as you were trained until you really start to work. Jiao Furun said,”winery conditions were very poor at that time. You had to do lots of labor work.”

In Weilong winery.he worked in different department,from workshop, scientific research and laboratory work positions.Since 1988,he stepped into management position,as the deputy chief in Quality inspection division.Jiao Furun said,it’s hard to do this job,because winery didn’t have the quality concept.But he changed this.

During 1996,dry wines were very popular.But at that time,most wineries make sweet or half juice wines.Since its foundation in 1993,Weilong decided to develop the dry white and red wines.The winery also established independent dry wine production workshop. Jiao Furun took whole charge of this.In 1994,Weilong’s dry red and white wines were launched.

Now,Weilong wines won many awards on domestic and international wine competitions.Those were recognition of winemakers’work.Jiao Furun said,he felt very happy about awarded wines.”What’s more exciting is that when you go on business or dine in a restaurant,you find consumers are drinking your wines.”

Up to now,wine has become an important part of Jiao Furun’s life,work or fate,though he was arranged and had to accept the work at the beginning.Just as he said,”The characteristics of wines can change a person’s life,improve one’s life quality,social groups then improve their work and life.”

Jiao Furun said,he felt very proud to be a winemaker.Because wine can make people happy and healthy.Because what you do is to make people’s life wonderful.
