He has been working in wine industry for over 30 years. He is senior expert in the industry. He is an easy-going, honest and a low-key sort of person. He is Zhang Shipeng, head engineer of Yantai Nanshan Manor Wine Company. Let’s hear his winemaking stories.

Born in October,1957,he is the senior agronomist, winemaker and wine taster. Graduated from Tianjin agricultural college in 1982,he first worked in Tianjin Winery, then Sino-french Joint-venture Dynasty Winery Ltd,  Sino-french Joint-venture Tianma winery, Qinhuangdao Yeli Winery.From 1984-1986,he went to Bordeaux for further study. While looking back these years of working in wine industry,he was very satisfied. He said,”I choose a career that I have great passion, with no regrets.If wine making is the reflection of soul, good wines are winemaker’s lifetime pursuit.”

Some thoughts on winemaking:

Zhang Shipeng is an active senior expert in wine industry and well respected with his excellent winemaking skills and good personality. With rich experience in winemaking, he has some thoughts that would like to share with young winemakers.

First,on the road to success, winemakers would suffer many hardships and obstacles. It’s not always smooth.

Second,Winemakers should make the appropriate process to express grape’s potential quality. How to extract aromas and dissolve them into wines, how to use advanced equipments, etc,winemaker should think over all these things. It’s normal while you encounter some problems in production process.

Third, winemakers should learn and master more relevant technologies, try to be versatile in the industry.

Fourth, winemaker is the soul person of wine. You can be a young wine with aging potential or an good old wine, but the most important thing is to become the mainstays in winery, take your responsibility and pass down your experience. I wish young winemakers can reach their career pinnacle .Wish the young Chinese winemakers can surpass the old.
