Late frost hit this region.Luckily, with emergency responses plus courage and efforts of "fight the nature",vines survived from this hit.
The snow fall
At 10:25 on April 30th,Lanzhou center meteorological observatory issued the frost blue warning: There will be forst in early morning within 48 hours in Hexi five cities,as well as Baiyin,Lanzhou,Dingxi,Pingliang and Qingyang cities.The lowest ground temperature will fall below 0 ¡æ.It will have an impact on agriculture.At 17:05 on May 1st,Lanzhou center meteorological observatory issued the frost yellow warning:There will be moderate frost in Jiuquan,Jiayuguan,and Zhangye cities within 24 hours.the lowest ground temperature will fall to - 3 ¡æ.
prevention measures
Along with the temperature drop,there were snow,rain and windy in many regions.It's a great challenge for spring vineyards.For Hexi Corridor region,frost or late frost are one of the main natural disasters for Spring vineyards.In some years,it's lighter,and some years heavier.Because it's so often,the region has made the work plan about temperature monitoring,straw and sheep dung laying,and smoke making.
The early morning on May 2nd is the key moment for frost prevention.Grape growers in regions like Wuwei,Jiayuguan,and Zhangye light the wood,sheep dung and firewood to make smoke.Although some vines were affected by different degrees,in general most vineyards have successfully survived from the 2016 late frost.
