Wang Jun is the general manager of Liaoning 41 degrees north latitude wine company.He has been in wine industry for 30 years.
He once worked in Tongpu company as technician,general manager and chief winemaker.He cultivates many amur grapes,like "Shuang Hong","Bei Binghong" and "Zou Youhong".Ice wine made with Bei Binghong grapes is well-known.Now he is still focusing on ice wine research and production.
He graduated from Dalian Polytechnic University (DPU) in 1985.He studied industrial fermentation there.Until now,he has been in the wine industry for 30 years.He was very excited to work in Tonghua winery.The winery was built in 1937.It was a leading winery at that time.Their wines were often serviced on state banquets.
In 1995,he became national wine judge.In 2006,he became member of China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA)'s technical committee and was named excellent winemaker.He then was hired to be judge for VINALIES wine competition.And in 2012,he became the first national senior winemaker and first level wine taster.In 2014,became a member of national wine standardization technical committee's wine branch.
He travelled to European countries many times such as France and Italy.He also visited Napa Valley to study advanced foreign wine technology and learn winemaking concepts.These experiences opened his minds.He then published many papers on industry journals.
In 2013,he left Tongpu.He worked in this company for almost 30 years from technician to chief winemaker.
Natural conditions in the northeast region is very special,the common vitis vinifera can't stand the cold winter.So wineries in northeast use amur grapes to make wines.They have little choice to choose wine grapes.To solve this problem,Tonghua built a grape horticultural farm.They cultivate grapes with wild grapes from mountains.After Wang Jun took charge of the farm,he got involved in a series of wine grape varieties research,such as "Shuang Hong","Bei Binghong" and "Zuo Youhong".
The farm self-developed "Shuang Hong"amur grape(77-7-64)passed appraisal by the ministry of agriculture.The variety was widely planted in Northeast and became the main variety.Tongpu therefore was rated as Ji Lin and even the nation's agricultural industrialization leading enterprise.
In addition, he drafted the national standard of origin"Tonghua amur grape"(GB/T20820-2007) and participated in the making of national "amur grape wine standard"(GB/T27586-2011).
"differentiation"and "characterization "are what he often talk about.Because he believes that only the indigenous,characteristic wines can go further.If the industry always follow the example of Bordeaux and Burgundy,it will always fall behind others.Chinese wines shoud have their local features,which every winemaker should follow this goal.
Talking about his perception of winemaking,he summarized with classic movie lines of "sideways":"I like to think about the life of wine. How it's a living thing. I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing; how the sun was shining; if it rained. I like to think about all the people who tended and picked the grapes. And if it's an old wine, how many of them must be dead by now. I like how wine continues to evolve, like if I opened a bottle of wine today it would taste different than if I'd opened it on any other day, because a bottle of wine is actually alive. And it's constantly evolving and gaining complexity. "
