Canadian Wine Sommelier Championship Launched In Greater China

The Trade Commissioner Service of the Government of Canada has launched its first ever Canadian Wine Sommelier Championship (CWSC) for sommeliers or food & beverage professionals in hotels, restaurants, bars or clubs in Greater China including China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Divided into two rounds, the competition will be held in five cities across greater China in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong on September 18 for semi-finals. Contestants will be asked to participate in a written exam as well as a Q&A session, where each will be asked to answer one question related to Canadian wine in video format.
Entrants from Macau are encouraged to compete in Hong Kong for the semi-finals.
One finalist from each city will then advance to the second round in Hong Kong for a written exam, blind tasting and a skills challenge. The finale will be held in front of a panel of judges and a live audience in late November this year.
The winner will be awarded a grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to the wine regions of Canada in British Columbia, Ontario and Nova Scotia in late spring/early summer 2018.
He or she will be expected to chronicle this trip to Canada as part of Destination Canada¡¯s digital footage for the Canada-China Year of Tourism in 2018.
