A recent study has confirmed that eco-friendly wines taste better than non-eco wines as well as costing less.
The study took an in-depth look at over 74,000 reviews and scores of Californian wines in magazines like Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator and discovered that on a standardised 100-point scale, eco-certified wines scored on average 4.1 more points, particularly among red wines, according to ZME Science.
¡°The bottom line is that however we look at it, we find that organic and biodynamic farming has these small but significant positive effects on wine quality,¡± said lead author Magali Delmas, a UCLA environmental economist and professor in the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
¡°Wine makers say it¡¯s better for the quality of the wine,¡± Delmas added. ¡°It¡¯s a purer taste with more sense of the terror, because when you replace pesticides with labor, you have hands-on care for the vines and you improve the composition of the soil and you get back all the life ¡ª the microbes, insects, bees and worms that you need in agriculture.¡±
However, while the study only covers Californian wine, Delmas believes that the scope is wide enough to suggest that the same would be true of wines from elsewhere.
