Leading Cava winery promises first-rate 2015 vintage

Penedes-based Cava producer Juv¨¦ & Camps is reporting an excellent crop from this year¡¯s harvest.
The harvest was late following extreme weather conditions throughout the year.
Heavy autumn rains were followed by snow in January. However, much of 2015 was very dry, with the combination of drought and high temperatures causing the vines to stop metabolising entirely in July.
It is possible that a hailstorm in May has caused long-term damage to some of next season¡¯s buds. This year¡¯s crop was unaffected, however.
The harvest took place between August 10 and September 19.
Antonio Orte, winemaker at Juv¨¦ & Camps, said: ¡°The 2015 harvest for Juv¨¦ & Camps will be the first to be certified organic in all five of the company¡¯s estates. All the grapes were extremely healthy this year, with no incidences of downy mildew, powdery mildew or rot.
¡°The vintage reminds me of 2009 in terms of richness and complex aromas showing in all the varieties.
From the first vinos en rama tastings, the different varieties already display a really expressive character with lots of maturity and great intensity of flavours.
¡°At this stage the 2015 harvest is shaping up to be a great vintage, full of quality and potential.¡±
Juv¨¦ & Camps is a family-owned winery located in San Sadurn¨ª d¡¯Anoia, near Barcelona.
Its wines have been a regular feature of state banquets given by the Spanish royal family.
The vineyards cover some 1,200 acres across three properties.
The estate was founded in 1792 and has been in the Juve & Camps family since 1921.
