In September,most wineries in Ningxia began harvesting and winemaking.
In most regions,sugar of red grapes has reached 22 or 23 degrees,white grapes between 20-22 degrees.But there is rain for several days in early september,which not only impact grape's sugar and quality,also delayed harvesting of white grapes.
Currently,white grapes like Chardonnay and Italian Riesling started harvesting.Chateau Zhihui Yuanshi rushed to pick chardonnay before autumn rain and finished on September 7th. On September 8th,Silver Heights were crushing chardonnay grapes.Xixia King winery began harvesting Italian Riesling grapes from 13th and would be finished in 8 days.Ningxia Chateau Heyu began harvest Riesling from 15th.
Because of autumn rain,white grapes harvesting was delayed by 3-5 days.The early ripe red grapes like merlot were expected to pick in late september.There was some concern for botrytis and downy mildew,especially for white grapes.
The average purchasing price this year is about 4 yuan per kilo.Price for higher quality red grapes between 6-12 yuan per kilo,white grapes 4-9 yuan per kilo.It depends,some wineries may exceed this price.Grape production was estimated higher than last year,increased by 20%,so the price down.
In recent years,most wineries in Ningxia have their own grape bases,so the purchasing from growers was declined.
