Moldova represents the ideal host for the 3rd UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Touism as, aside from being home to the world's largest wine cellar, the country has placed itself as a world leading wine producer. Moldova boasts endless rows of vines and a strong sense of community and rich culture with unique music, dance, food, poetry, architechture and artisanal goods. In combination with the wine, this creates an authentic and unique experience for tourists from all over the world.
Within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this conference seeks to explore issues related to sustainable rural development through tourism and, especially, engage in advancing the pivotal role wine tourism can play in fostering local development. Wine tourism as a subset of gastronomy tourism is being acclaimed as a more sustainable approach to tourism due to its promotion of economic, environmental and social sustainability. Sustainable rural development is a high priority around the world due to declining rural economies and the challenges they are currently facing. Diversification of rural economies into tourism has been identified in rural development strategies as a tool with the power to provide income, employment and capital flows. Against this backdrop, the 3rd UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism is an excellent opportunity for experts to discuss these issues through panel debates and lively discussions.
The conference will bring together international participants ranging from public entities, Destination Management Organizations (DMOs), international and intergovernmental organizations as well as private sector stakeholders. Throughout the sessions, dynamic discussions and expert presentations will advance in topics such as overcoming challenges in wine tourism, Public-Private Partnerships for rural wine development and inclusive tourism practices.
