Sales of sparkling wine are soaring in the US with Prosecco and Moscato leading the charge, particularly among millennial consumers.
As reported by CNBC, sparkling wine shipments to America were up 8% in 20104 according to the Wine Institute with 40% of drinkers popping bottles for everyday moments rather than special occasions.
¡°Prosecco has seen nearly 30% growth for the past several years; it tastes light, is less bubbly and a little bit sweeter than Champagne,¡± Ray Isle, executive wine editor of Food & Wine Magazine, told CNBC.
Americans consumed 375 million cases of wine last year, helping the US remain one of the world¡¯s largest wine consuming nations with the industry¡¯s annual revenue rising to $37.6 billion last year.
Consumers in the country are also spending more on wine, with the average bottle price falling within the $12-$30 bracket.
Other wine trends in the US include a rise in searching for wines online, increased interest in organic and biodynamic wines and a thirst for wine in kegs.
