New Zealand is now the number two country of origin for wine sold over 7 pounds in the UK.
According to the latest data from Nielsen, New Zealand are now responsible for producing 18% of all wines sold in this premium price range in the UK.
The statistics also show a rise in the average price of a bottle of New Zeland wine of 8.1% from 6.79 pounds to 7.34 pounds.
According to Chris Stroud, European marketing manager for New Zealand Wine Growers, "New Zealand is now selling almost one in every 5 bottles in the UK above 7 pounds market. This is outstanding; especially considering New Zealand only produces less than one per cent of the world's wine."
"The UK is one of the most sophisticated wine market in the world, due to the choice available, and it's terrific that consumers are continuing to choose New Zealand Wine. It shows that consumers know they are getting excellent quality with a New Zealand wine and it is worth spending that little bit extra,"he said.
Doubled with bumper harvests, as reported in the drinks business earlier this month, things are looking healthy for the New Zealand wine industry
New Zealand wine exports reached a record high earlier in the year and now stand at $1.33 billion up 10% for the year end June 2014.
Wine is currently New Zealand's 7th biggest goods export and wine exports have increased by $1 billion in the last 10 years.
